Issues Raised by Media Ownership

Most people nowadays use social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc. With each platform you can interact with other people by following their account, liking posts, sharing, etc. You can make new friends from all over the world by just a click of a button. Plus you’re able to keep up to date with new trends and your favorite celebrities/influencers. This also leads to an easier way to contact people, which leads me to sponsorship. Influencers and celebrities now have an easier way to sponsor the products they’re using by posting about it on their platforms. And since they tend to have a big following that means more people will be able to see these products and share it. In the end if you’re sponsored by one of these famous people then that’d mean a large audience can see your products and could possibly purchase it. Bringing both the influencer and you benefits.

However even with all these advantages, there’s bound to be some disadvantages too. Ownership problems tend to pop up with both influencers and business groups. If more then one influencer shares an account some problems like money may come up. An example of this could be the YouTube channel Danplan, Danplan was a YouTube channel created by 3 friends back in 2014. They were a gameshow/scenario channel with animations to go along with their stories. This year the original cast of Danplan fell apart due to business problems between two of them. So now they own their own separate channels. This is just one example out of many concerning media ownership issues.
