Exercise: Look at a magazine cover. What can you tell about the type of magazine it is; what kinds of articles it contains; who is likely to read it? Why?

This is a culinary magazine, meaning it contains different food recipes and instructions on how to make them. This specific magazine covers specific winter recipes to warm you up during the harsh cold and different types of comfort foods to indulge on. The cover photo is a giant picture of stew, which is supposed to get you into the mood for something warm and ultimately make you hungry. The cover lines and kickers surrounding the cover picture first tell you what to cook on a winter day, then encouraging words to eat some salad in February, as well as two recipes (one being for a baked potato and the other for decadent chocolate), and finally to the left of the stew picture is a description of a page filled with stew recipes. Then, at the bottom of the page are suggestions to go and watch the Super Bowl, Jimmy Fallon style. The masthead of this magazine is Bon Appétite, which is the company that produced this article. There’s also a couple mini titles thrown around the page too such as the Modern Comfort one and the Winter Survival Issue one. Finally, at the bottom left side of the page is the bar code for this magazines issue and the date. This magazine will most likely attract chefs, home cooks, etc. This is most likely due to the fact it contains information on different types of foods to eat during the winter season, as well as recipes with easy to follow directions.
